There is an inherent conflict in search. Time is of the essence, and a good search can’t be rushed.
Taking time up front pays big dividends at the end. I take the time at the outset to get to know the client, the team, the opportunities, and the organization’s challenges. I speak with stakeholders throughout the organization to ensure that the client team is aligned on the requirements and that I have the most fully rounded picture of the right candidate.
Time is a critical element of every search. For clients, an opening is work that isn’t getting done, or goals not being met. There are pressing priorities, and the right person is essential.
It takes time to execute a search, thinking through the profile, recruiting, screening, interviewing, and connecting the candidate dots with the client requirements. Next, determining key skills and characteristics, and prioritizing them. Identifying the interviewing team and process, gathering feedback, assessing each candidate and his/her suitability for the role. Time to review references, negotiate an offer and investigate the candidate’s background.
Finally, there is onboarding, setting expectations, creating the opportunity for success and the framework to evaluate progress.
I work with clients to ensure the search begins in a well-grounded manner. I manage the time of clients and their teams to make them as effective in the process as possible. I watch the “to-do” list and keep things moving forward. Clients learn quickly that they can delegate to me, that I’ve “got it.”
I don’t waste time, but I also don’t rush judgments. When it’s time to make a decision, I help the client assess the facts, evaluate the candidates, and reach a conclusion that is the best path forward.
I don’t end my work before the right candidate is found. I don’t hand back the reins midway through. Searches demand commitment, detail, and thoughtfulness. You get all that with me.
About Me
After a 20-year career leading banking teams and making large loans to corporations in the Bay Area, I left banking to form an independent management consulting firm. A few years later, after leading a nonprofit board’s capital campaign, I pivoted back to the employee side, joining Kreuzberger Associates.
My search practice has been limited to private entities, offices, practices, firms, and other closely-held organizations. This includes nonprofits, foundations, investment management, professional services, and-- asa large part of the practice--the family offices of UHNW individuals, serving both Single-Family Office and Multi-Family Office structures.
Working in search, helping clients to find and hire talented leadership, resonates deeply with my personal service ethic, and my understanding of what makes teams work well together.
I have conducted, either independently or in partnership with team members, numerous searches for CFOs, COOs, CIOs, Controllers, Portfolio Managers, and HRDirectors.
It is work I have grown to love: the clients, the candidates, the match-making, and having an impact on both client teams and candidate careers.
I am a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, N.Y., and have been an active volunteer in the Bay Area for many years, most recently chairing the Board of Larkin Street Youth Services (2014-2017).
